The Center for Sustainability and Excellence has a long-standing history in Europe of providing Sustainability Education to global FT 500 corporations and executives.

The Evolution of Europe’s Sustainability Agenda: Crisis Tribes and Regional Concerns

This April Sustainability Practitioners from all over Europe will join the new leadership edition 2024 of the Certified Sustainability (ESG) Practitioner Program.

Overview of the Certified Sustainability (ESG) Practitioner Program

This training will bring together knowledgeable professionals from different countries, fields, and companies to join the three-day workshop, to develop and enhance their business strategies through CSR frameworks and the most successful ESG practices.

The Certified Sustainability Program provides tools for the design and implementation of the corporate Sustainability plan, as well as effective management of Sustainability complexities within the organization. The program also provides insights on new legislation, integration of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals into the current sustainability plan, new and upcoming trends, ways to influence and get support from C-suite executives, the role of Investors, and how to maximize their corporate performance in ESG ratings.

The Evolution of Europe’s Sustainability Agenda: Crisis Tribes and Regional Concerns

Taking into consideration the geography of Europe’s crisis tribes, the sustainability agenda at the European level has evolved into a complex and positive agenda. In Germany, immigration stands out as the primary concern for citizens, unlike in France and Denmark where climate change takes precedence. Italians and Portuguese highlight global economic instability, while in Spain, Great Britain, and Romania, the COVID-19 pandemic holds the top spot. Estonians, Poles, and Danes regard the conflict in Ukraine as the most impactful crisis.

The European Commission under Ursula von der Leyen has successfully pivoted the European Union towards climate neutrality. With the European Green Deal, the EU has set clear and ambitious climate targets for 2030 and 2050 and has adopted a wave of legislation to reach them, like the CSDDD and PPWD. The European Commission has mobilized hundreds of billions of euros in EU green funding. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic and Russia’s incursion into Ukraine, it became evident that Europe faces multiple significant challenges beyond just the climate crisis. Nevertheless, the von der Leyen Commission has actively pursued opportunities in the green sector while managing these crises. For instance, the NextGenerationEU investment plan, aimed at combating the pandemic, prioritized investments with climate relevance. Similarly, the REPowerEU plan, devised to reduce dependence on energy imports from Russia, has emphasized implementing eco-friendly initiatives.

Corporate Responsibility as a Driver for Sustainability

Corporate Responsibility (CSR) is a key enabler of the transition to a more sustainable future, as private actors’ engagement is needed to deliver efficiency and results. CEOs and the whole C-Suite need to be sustainability experts. The 2024 sustainability imperative highlights faster adaptation and a massive step forward.

On that note, the Center for Sustainability & Excellence (CSE) knows first-hand the challenge of ESG strategy and sustainability implementation and this April we will discuss all the latest trends in sustainability (CSR) for the next coming years while addressing the European needs in a global context.  New policies and strategies are required to be orchestrated to reliably support the delivery of long-term sustainability.

CSE’s Latest Research Findings on ESG Reporting Trends

Also, CSE is pleased to announce the release of its seventh annual research findings on ESG Reporting Trends, providing a comprehensive overview of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices from 200 companies listed in the FT 500 across Europe, the United States and Canada.

Just as the Center for Sustainability and Excellence (CSE) research shows, companies with the highest rankings on sustainability ratings have better financial performance than companies with lower rankings.

These findings underscore the crucial role of ESG practices in fostering sustainable, resilient, and financially viable businesses,” said Professor Nikos Avlonas. “CSE’s research not only serves as a barometer for industry best practices but also provides actionable insights for companies looking to enhance their ESG frameworks.”
